Martin County Middle School softball falls to Paintsville

INEZ — Martin County Middle School softball team dropped a home game to Paintsville 15-5 in four innings April 17.

Paintsville got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning.

The Lady Cards scored a run in the bottom of the first to trail 2-1. Shannon Marcum doubled and Mia Fields and Hailey Jarvis each got a walk.

Paintsville broke loose in the second inning to score 12 runs and go up 14-1.

The Lady Cards added another run in the second to cut the lead 14-2. Aaliyah Carter singled to start the inning, Aliyah Moore and Chloe Jude each walked, and Shannon Marcum belted a single.

Paintsville added one run in the third to go up 15-2.

The Lady Cards rallied to score two runs in the bottom of the third. Bella Robinson hammered a triple, Hailey Jarvis singled, Jayla Savage drew a walk, Sidney Gantt got hit by a pitch, and Bri Muncy walked.

Martin County scored again in the fourth but could not overcome the deficit.

Shannon Marcum toed the rubber for the Lady Cards. The pitcher gave up 15 runs on 12 hits, struck out four batters and walked seven.

The Lady Cards scored five runs on five hits.
