MATEWAN, W.Va. — Six people are in jail in connection to a murder in the Matewan area of Mingo County. On Friday, police charged one of those individuals with second-degree murder.
Troopers with the Williamson detachment of the West Virginia State Police say Cory Marcum, 27, of North Matewan, died from a stab wound to the thigh.
The incident was reported around 11:30 p.m. April 9, troopers said.
WVSP charged David Tidwell IV, 39, of Chattaroy, with second-degree murder, accusing Tidwell of stabbing Marcum, who died several hours later.
Police say no one attempted to help Marcum or report the incident initially.
Marcum appeared to have been injured for quite a while before police received the report.
The victim died before troopers arrived at a scene at the Magnolia Gardens Apartment Complex, where STAT EMS crews also arrived to find him deceased.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Mingo County Magistrate Court, the stabbing occurred inside the residence of Phyllis Ferrell, located along State Route 65.
Police say the suspects burned, cleaned up and destroyed evidence from the crime scene.
The six suspects are facing felony accessory after the fact for murder.
The suspects include:
– Quiana Nicole Harmon, 42, of North Matewan
– Phyllis June Ferrell, 62, of Matewan
– Everett Arthur Lockard, 53, of North Matewan
– Terry Kevin Steele, 52, of Matewan
– Misty Treal Cline, 45, of Delbarton
– Henry David Tidwell, 39, of Chattaroy
All six are in the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden.
The motive is unknown at this time.
WVSP Trooper J.C. Morrison, Sgt. Cory Maynard and Trooper C.K. Johnson are the investigating officers.
