Pikeville outlasts Martin County 7-3 in opening round of All-A Classic

INEZ — Martin County hosted the 15 Region Baseball All-A Classic and lost to Pikeville 7-3 in the opening round April 4 at Cardinal Field.

Pikeville scored five runs in the first and second innings.

The Cardinals fought back in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs to cut the lead 5-2.

Neither team scored again until the top of the seventh when Pikeville pushed two across the plate to go up 7-2.

The Cardinals tried to rally, scoring one run to close the gap to 7-3, but it would not be enough.

The Panthers advanced to the semifinals.

Pikeville scored seven runs on 10 hits and had one error. The Cardinals scored three runs on nine hits and had three errors.

Jackson Hall got the win on the mound for the Panthers and Westin Blevins got the save.

Greyden Proctor took the loss for the Cardinals.

Aiden Horn had three singles and drove in two runs to carry the offensive load for the Cardinals. Greyden Proctor doubled and singled, Damian Cheek belted two singles, and Dawson Mills and Chase Stacy singled.

Pikeville’s Noah Jarrell had two singles and drove in two runs; Sam Wright had a line shot for a double, two singles and crossed the plate twice; Jack Lowe singled and drove in two runs; Bradyn Hall singled, scored one run and drove in one; Dylan Thompson scored two runs.
