WARFIELD — The Martin County Middle School Lady Cards volleyball team played its last game March 28 at home against Herald Whitaker. This was also eighth-grade night.
The night started with the C-team making a great effort but losing 2-1. The first set went to Herald Whitaker 15-13. The Lady Cards won the second set 15-10. Herald Whitaker closed out the victory by winning the third set 15-12.
The B-team game was like the C-team game as the Lady Cards lost two sets and won one. Set 1 went to Herald Whitaker 18-16. The Lady Cards won the second set 18-2, finishing the set by scoring 16 points in a row. The third set went to Herald Whitaker 18-15.
Following the B-team game, Coach Elizabeth Mann and the C- and B-team recognized eighth-grade players.
The players were accompanied by their parents to the center of the gym floor and, with each player’s individual song playing, accepted gifts from the team and coach.
“These eighth-grade girls have been incredible,” Coach Mann said. “Martin County High School will be gaining some amazing talent.”
Mann also commented on how much love and talent the players have.
The A-team game got underway following the ceremony.
The A-team closed their season with a heartbreaking loss.
The Lady Cards started strong and won the first set 21-19. Herald Whitaker won the second set 25-24 and the third set 21-18.
