LEXINGTON — Two Martin County High School players were named Honorable Mention All-State by the Lexington Herald Leader. Girls player Laken Williams and boys player Luke Hale were both included in the report released March 28.
Williams finished the season ranked 20th in the state in scoring by the KHSAA. She averaged 21.2 points, five assists and five rebounds per game this season.
Williams was named to the 15th Region Cats Pause Top 15 Players in the Region, the 15th Region All-Tournament Team, Marshall County Hoopfest MVP and Daytona Beach Classic All-Tournament Team.
The junior guard led the Lady Cardinals to a 26-6 season, a Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic championship, 57th District Conference championship, 57th District Tournament championship, Marshall County Hoopfest championship, 15th Region All-A runner-up and Daytona Beach Classic runner-up. Williams and the Lady Cards advanced to the 15th Region Tournament, beating Floyd Central and losing to Pikeville to end the season.
Hale averaged 20.3 points per game this season and shot 46.2% from the field (242/522) and 80.9 (106/131) from the free-throw line.
The junior guard was named the MVP of the 15th Region Tournament.
Hale led the Cardinals to a 24-11 season, 15th Region All-A championship, Elite 8 All-A State finish, 57th District championship and 15th Region championship.
