Tennis falls short to Shelby Valley

SHELBY VALLEY — Martin County tennis teams fell short to Shelby Valley on the road March 28.

The Cardinals fought hard but lost a 7-6 decision, while the Lady Cards took a 3-2 loss.

Below is a recap of the matches.

In boys set play eight Cardinal players competed in singles.

Bryon Marcum won his set 6-1, Bryson Dials won 6-4, Connor Dials won 7-6 and 7-5, and Brayden Cook won 6-0. Brayden Cook lost 8-1, Corey Jarrell lost 6-0, Levi Howell lost 6-3 and Jeremy Music lost by 4.

In doubles play the Cardinals had four teams competing. The team of Connor Dials and Bryson Dials pulled out wins 7-6 and 7-0. Corey Jarrell and Levi Howell lost 6-0, Liam May and Bryon Marcum lost 6-7 and Brayden Cook and Jeremy Music didn’t get to finish their set due to rain. They were up 5-4 when the set was called.

In girls set play the Lady Cardinals had two players compete in singles. Candace Spaulding went 1-1 winning 6-2 and losing 4-6. Dakota Ward also went 1-1 winning 6-4 and losing 0-6.

Spaulding and Ward competed in doubles play and lost 6-1.
