Lady Cards go 1-1 on the road

Coach Josh Horn’s Martin County Lady Cardinals went 1-1 on the road last week, winning over Floyd County Central 9-6 and dropping a 15-0 decision to Belfry.

Below is a recap of both games:

MC vs. FC

EASTERN — Martin County pulled out a hard-fought 9-6 win over the Floyd Central Jaguars in a game March 27 at Floyd Central.

Zoie Hinkle started in the circle for the Lady Cards and threw five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. She recorded four strikeouts and seven walks.

Kayleigh Osendott relieved Hinkle, pitching two innings and surrendering two runs on two hits.

The Lady Cardinals got their bats going in the second inning and scored four runs on four hits and two walks. Brynnalyn Smith and Sophie Harless started the inning with walks. Addison Duncan, Zoie Hinkle and Savannah Young all singled. Bella Muncy slugged a double to put the Cards up 4-0.

The Lady Cardinals struck again in the top of the fifth and scored five runs on four hits and two walks. Hinkle, Smith and Hannah Stacy each recorded singles. Bailey Dials slammed a triple to put the Lady Cards up 9-0.

Floyd Central rallied to score three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh and trailed 9-6.

That would be as close as the score would get. The Lady Cards held on to improve their record to 3-1.

The Lady Cards scored nine runs on 11 hits, while Floyd Central scored six runs on nine hits.

Martin County gave up nine walks and recorded five strikeouts. The Jaguars gave up six walks and recorded four strikeouts.

Providing the offense for the Lady Cardinals, Hinkle had two singles and a double, Bella Muncy doubled and singled, Stacy had two singles, Smith, Duncan and Young all singled and Dials tripled.

MC vs. BH

BELFRY — The Lady Cardinals fell to Belfry 15-0 in four innings Thursday at Belfry.

Belfry eighth grade phenom Molly Fahm pitched the shutout, giving up one hit and no runs and recording nine strikeouts.

Belfry had 15 runs on 14 hits.

Fahm batted 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Natalie Fite of Belfry went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored. Mackaylin Meade batted 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Alexia Bevins went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.

The Lady Cardinals moved to 3-2 on the season.

No stats were available for the Lady Cards.
