INEZ — Three Martin County High School sophomores have been accepted into the Craft Academy at Morehead State University.
MCHS principal Martha Williams announced that Chase Childers, Erickson Mills and Brayden Cook received news of their acceptance last week.
The Craft Academy is a postsecondary residential program for academically exceptional high school juniors and seniors.
Childers is the son of Jeffrey Childers and Tanya Jackson, Cook is the son of Jason and Michelle Cook, and Erikson is the son of Eric and Carolea Mills.
Craft Academy applicants are high school sophomores who will have completed geometry, algebra I and algebra II by the end of their sophomore year. They must have a suggested GPA of 3.0 or higher and an ACT score minimum of 18 in English and 22 in math.
Students are selected based on ACT scores, academic grades from ninth and 10th grades, interest in advanced careers in science, technology, engineering and math, student responses to application essay questions, interviews by academy staff members, and recommendations from teachers and others.
There is no cost for tuition, housing or a meal plan.
Students are responsible for textbooks, additional meals and miscellaneous personal expenses. However, the home district often covers the cost of textbooks.
Students reside with other Craft Academy students in Grote-Thompson Hall under the supervision of the assistant director of residence life and resident counselors.
