Kermit Lee Bowen

1943—2023

Kermit Lee Bowen, 79, of Louisa, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Kermit was born Oct. 10, 1943, to the late Carl and Delcie Chapman Bowen. He is preceded in death by a brother, Willie Bowen; three sisters, Evelyn Crum, Vada Hall and Mae Myers; a sister-in-law, Viva Bowen; a brother-in-law, James “Cab” Crum; and a nephew, Eddie Crum.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Spaulding Bowen, and his children Sherri (Mike) Williams of Cynthiana, Dawn Bowen of Flatwoods, and Dwayne Bowen of Louisa. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by six grandsons, Aaron (Allison) Williams of Louisville, Devon Williams of Cynthiana, Ian Parsley of Flatwoods, Harlee, Drake and Tripp Bowen of Louisa, and one daughter-in-law, Tiffany Farra. He is also survived by one brother, Orville (Joyce) Bowen of Ostrander, Ohio; three brothers-in-law, Clina Hall of Louisa, Gilbert Myers of Hillsville, Virginia, and Jennings Ellis of Inglis, Florida; one sister-in-law, Brenda Spaulding of Gallipolis, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Kermit was a Vietnam veteran who earned one Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He worked for Baker’s Construction and lived in Ostrander, Ohio, before moving back home to Louisa in the 1970s. He then worked as a foreman for Wolf Creek Collieries. In his later years, he enjoyed working on old cars and going to estate sales. He was loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be at Crum Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 22 from 6-9 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday, March 23 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home. Garrett Mills will lead the service and the Ray Horn Singers will sing. Burial will follow at the Bowen Family Cemetery on Buffalo Horn Road, Louisa. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez.
