INEZ — Martin County High School softball coach Jonathan Durham has resigned from his position.
MCHS athletic director Chuck White confirmed that Durham turned in his resignation Thursday and informed team members.
Durham replaced Cody Slone in 2020.
“It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation as the softball coach at MCHS. This decision was not an easy one to make, but after careful consideration, I have decided that it is time for me to step down from my coaching position,” Durham announced in a written statement.
“My time coaching the softball team has been an incredible experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a talented and dedicated group of athletes. However, due to health reasons, I am no longer able to continue coaching at this time. I want to express my gratitude for the support and guidance provided by the school during my tenure as coach. It has been a privilege to be a part of the MCHS community, and I will always cherish the memories and relationships that I have formed here. I love you all and wish you the best of luck with the rest of the season.”
White said MCHS was blessed to have had Durham.
“We always welcome Coach Durham back in any aspect if he wishes to help with softball in the future,” said White.
White also announced that assistant coach Josh Horn would be the interim coach this season.
Horn has served as an assistant coach for the last four years.
“We needed to get someone in that position that was familiar with the team and goals that were set in place,” said White. “Coach Horn has the support of the administration and myself, as we all believe he will do great with the program.”
