INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk’s office reported the following arrests:
Harrison Messer, 40, of Lovely, was arrested Monday on Riverfront Road in Lovely for alcohol intoxication in a public place and menacing. Sheriff Kirk responded to a call about a male subject who was said to be intoxicated on moonshine and preventing a female from leaving a residence on Riverfront Road. The sheriff reports that Messer put his hand in his waistband as the sheriff pulled into the driveway. According to the police report, a female was trying to leave the residence and Messer wouldn’t let her leave. The female told officers that Messer “broke the table” after she confronted him about being drunk. She said Messer attempted to stop her when she tried to enter the house to get her belongings. Law enforcement restrained Messer against the wall to stop him from going after the female.

Sheriff Kirk attempted to make a traffic stop on Maynard for no taillight. When the sheriff activated his emergency lights, Maynard accelerated and attempted to go up a driveway, where he wrecked his vehicle. The sheriff noted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Maynard’s breath. According to the police report, Maynard stated he had been taking Neurontin. Law enforcement did not conduct field sobriety tests because Maynard complained of head and back pain from the wreck. Officers transported him to a hospital, where he underwent a blood test.

Adams activated his emergency lights to make a traffic stop and Fitchpatrick hit his brakes and started slowing down, then accelerated and took off, reaching speeds over 90 mph. Fitchpatrick traveled 1-2 miles before he decided to stop. According to Adams, Fitchpatrick said he took off because he had two prior speeding tickets. He also allegedly said he realized he couldn’t outrun the officer and decided to stop, adding that his vehicle shuts off at 99 mph.

Ashley Harless, 41, of Tomahawk, was arrested March 1 in Tomahawk for assault, fourth degree (child abuse). Deputy Adams responded to a complaint from dispatch of an adult assaulting a 14-year-old. The officer spoke to the alleged victim, who said she was outside playing with another child on the trampoline when the other child started crying. The juvenile stated Harless came outside and told her to “shut up” when she tried to explain why the other child was crying. The juvenile said Harless told her to come to the steps and sit in front of her, then grabbed her by the hair of the head and tried to pull her into the house. According to the police report, the juvenile said when Harless let go, the juvenile tried to run through the yard, and Harless threw a vape and hit her on the left arm by the elbow leaving a knot and laceration.
Adams reported that Harless initially denied all the claims and said the juvenile was a “compulsive liar.” The deputy said he spoke to the other juvenile, who immediately stated, before being asked anything, that Harless “told me to tell you nothing happened so she didn’t go to jail.” The child allegedly said Harless “got mad and was trying to pull [juvenile] in the house by her hair.” According to Adams, Harless finally admitted to pulling the child’s hair and throwing the vape.
