WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Two Kentucky boys beat their West Virginia opponents Saturday night in the West Virginia Redneck Brawl at Williamson Memorial Fieldhouse.

A capacity crowd of about 6,000 packed the fieldhouse to watch the street redneck fighting event, where boxers stepped into the ring for the first time to slug it out in three, one-minute round fights using 16-ounce gloves and no headgear.

“Mr. Chevy” Jeremy Kirk, 33, of Salyersville (6 foot, 175 pounds) was up to the task. He whipped 18-year-old “Smokehouse” Jr. Isaacs (6-foot-2, 165 pounds) out of West Virginia.

Likewise, “Dr. Dre” Kevin Whitt, 34, of Inez (5-11, 170 pounds) was ready. Whitt easily wore out 22-year-old “Slim Shady” Skylar Doug Mullins (5-10, 160 pounds) out of West Virginia.

“The plan was to hit and not get hit,” Whitt said. “Staying humble is what I try to do, but I put in some serious work the past month … and I feel like I earned it.”

Kirk and Whitt each received $500 for winning their fights.
