Applications being accepted now for summer 2023 positions
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Beginning in the summer of 2023, the Auditor of Public Accounts will offer seasonal, paid internships to college students.
The APA announced in a press release March 1 that it is launching its first “Follow the Data Internship Program” this summer. The title of the paid internship program comes from the cornerstone philosophy of Kentucky’s 47th State Auditor, Mike Harmon, and his directive to APA to “follow the data” when it comes to their work in making sure government is efficient, effective and ethical.
“Our office is always seeking out the best talent possible to conduct, on average, more than 600 audits each year in addition to special examinations in areas ranging from our public universities to county attorney offices,” said Harmon. “The new internship program will help us hopefully find and retain those looking for such a career.”
Internship applications are being accepted in the following areas of APA:
• Office of State Government Audits and Technology, which audits accounts and financial transactions of state agencies.
• Office of Local Government Audits, which audits fiscal courts, county sheriffs, county clerks, and other local offices.
• Office of Special Examinations, which examines agencies or programs based on allegations of waste, fraud, or abuse.
Interns will work with APA audit staff to perform audit tests, analyze data, and provide support for more complex audit procedures. Interns may be involved in various assignments during the course of the internship.
To be eligible, students must be currently enrolled in an accredited Kentucky college or university, have completed their junior year and be on track to graduate with either 20 semester hours or 30 quarter hours of accounting.
Interested students can submit their application or learn more about APA’s paid internship program on the auditor’s website auditor.ky.gov/cpatools/Pages/Interns.aspx.
