
PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — Martin County girls basketball coach Robin Harmon-Newsome has won the 57th District Tournament championship 14 times as a coach. She claimed the latest Thursday when her Lady Cardinals defeated Paintsville in the title game at Paintsville High School.
Harmon-Newsome has had a legendary playing and coaching career. Her records include 11 district titles as head coach at Sheldon Clark High School from 1982-2007 and three as head coach at Martin County High School from 2019-2023.
Harmon-Newsome also won four district championships as a player for Sheldon Clark.
The coach’s 2022-23 Martin County team was 26-5 on the season Monday after winning their opening game in the 15th Regional Tournament.
She gives all the glory to God.
“I have had a blessed career with amazing coaches, staff and, of course, excellent players,” Newsome said. “The saying is true: ‘Great players make great coaches.’ So thank you to all of my players over the years.”
