Four youth wrestlers win state titles
WARFIELD — Martin County Middle School matman Ashton “Parker” Maynard is the KFWC Middle School state champion in the 130-weight class.
Maynard defeated LaRue County’s Romeo Bartolomei 10-2 in the championship round Sunday.
The seventh grader is 40-0 and has won several youth and middle school tournament championships this season. Those include Bobby Bates Youth Classic, Hatfield & McCoy, Bristol Brawl and KFWC Middle School Region 4. He also bumped up to compete on the high school level for three tournaments and won the Hatfield & McCoy 32, Ashland Invitational and Tates Creek Invitational.
Maynard is no stranger to state championships. He won state titles in youth wrestling in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021.
He is also a straight-A student.
His MCMS teammate Jeremy Mollett finished third in the state tournament 92-weight class, while Brody Jewell finished fifth in the 75-weight class.
MCMS finished eighth overall out of 62 teams.
Youth state champions
Martin County Youth Wrestling has four state champions. Lukas May (8U 43A), Luke Lawson (8U 43B), Colton Anderson (10U 71) and Nolan Muncy (10U HWT) won their titles Sunday.
Martin County Youth Wrestling had several wrestlers to place at state:
Second place – Woody Mullins (6U HWT), Ayden Warren (12U 92) and Ian Mullins (12U 160).
Third place – Jeremiah Vanhoose (8U 56), Noah Bowen (MS 98) and Cole Jewell (MS 140B).
Fourth place – a Saylor Mullins (8U 85).
Fifth place – Jeremy Bentley (MS 121A), Easton Marcum (MS 130A), James Bentley (MS 130B) and Tyler Goble (MS 130C).
Sixth place – Noah Preece (10U 63) and Brody Mollett (MS 121B).
