LEXINGTON — The Martin County Cardinals move from District 8 to District 7 in the upcoming football season.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association met Jan. 18 in Lexington to approve the football realignment and revision for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The board agreed to adopt a two-year alignment.
District 7 teams include Floyd Central, Knott County, Prestonsburg and Martin County.
District 8 teams in the last alignment included West Carter, Bath County, East Ridge, Prestonsburg and Shelby Valley.
Martin County had to travel 2-3 hours in the past alignment and compete with five other teams.
