Inez B Team narrowly escaped Warfield to win the B Team county championship 23-22.
The Inez Indians B Team won the bye in the Martin County Elementary Tournament to advance to the B Team championship game. Warfield defeated Eden 32-16 on Jan. 11 in the tournament’s first round to advance to the championship game to play Inez.
The championship game took place at Martin County Middle School on Jan. 12 in front of a packed house with standing room only.
Inez and Warfield battled it out for first place. This game went down to the wire.
Inez jumped out 9-5 at the end of the first quarter. Warfield fought back to take the second quarter 7-4.
Inez was up 13-12 at halftime.
Warfield outscored Inez 4-2 in the third quarter to take a 16-15 lead into the final quarter.
Braden Hammond knocked down two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep the Indians close. Inez outscored Warfield 8-6 in the fourth for the victory.
Hammond led Inez with nine points knocking down three treys for the game. Kason Evans and Landon Estep each scored four points, Gabe Blevins netted three points and Zaiden Tackett added 2.
Mason Prince led Warfield with 11 points, Ben Sammons netted six, Shawn Nelson added three and Jonah McCoy made two free throws for two points.
