Mountain Citizen Players of the Week

INEZ — Martin County freshman Brooke Marcum (25) and sophomore Peyton Davis (11) are the Mountain Citizen Players of the Week.

Marcum is a first-year starting guard for the Lady Cardinals and has had multiple game-winning moments and huge free throws. She came up big in the Lady Cardinals championship win over Floyd Central in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic by making four huge fourth-quarter points to grab the trophy.

The freshman had a career-high of 20 points against Atlantic High School on Dec. 27.

Marcum also came up big in the opening round All “A” win against Paintsville (Jan. 3) with seven points, four steals and three rebounds. She added to her great season with another solid performance in the Lady Cards win over Phelps in the All “A” semifinals Friday with four points, six assists and five rebounds.

Marcum averages eight points per game and three rebounds per game. She is 45% from the field on the season.

Marcum is the daughter of Michael and Jenny Marcum.

Davis holds a guard position for the Martin County Cardinals.

In the Martin County vs. Johnson Central game Jan. 3, Davis had 19 points and four steals to add to the 20-point Cardinal victory.

In the Martin County vs. Paintsville game Thursday, Davis added 12 points and five steals coming off the bench in the huge 40-point victory over the Tigers.

The sophomore averages 9.5 points per game and is shooting 58% from the field on the season.

As the saying goes, a team is only as good as its bench, and Davis gives the Cards a boost when he checks into the game. He has been a major factor in the Cards moving to 11-2 on the season.

Davis is the son of Billy and Tabby Davis.

Congratulations to Marcum and Davis on being named Players of the Week.
