Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?

BY KYLE LOVERN

I’m a little late to the party, but if it was a New Year’s party, I was asleep by 11 p.m. Forget about being up for the countdown at midnight. Those days are over.

So I’m also late for writing a column about New Year’s resolutions. I’m not one to make those because I know they will be hard to keep.

We all want to lose weight, eat healthier, be better people and the usual things people say when making these resolutions.

Let’s face it – it is really tough to keep a resolution. Heck, on New Year’s Day I’m ready to go get some cabbage rolls and cornbread. So there goes eating healthy out the window on day one.

If there are any sweets left over from the Christmas holiday, I’m going to continue to snack on those. I don’t want to see them go to waste.

I decided to surf the “web” and find some interesting quotes or resolutions that are common or a bit comical.

Without further ado, here we go.

“Youth is when you’re allowed to stay up late on New Year’s Eve. Middle age is when you’re forced to.” –Bill Vaughn

“New Year’s resolution is to stop hanging out with people who ask me about my New Year’s resolutions.” – Anonymous

“Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account.” –Oscar Wilde

“Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.” –Unknown

“If it takes me more than two days to break my resolutions, I’ve made too many.” –Anonymous

“I was going to quit all my bad habits for the new year, but then I remembered that nobody likes a quitter.” –Unknown

“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year’s leaves.” –Bill Vaughn

“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” –Mae West

“A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other.” –Unknown

“May all your troubles last as long as your resolutions.” –Joey Adams

“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.” –Benjamin Franklin

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” –George Eliot

“Life is like riding bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” –Albert Einstein

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.” –E.E. Cummings

“Many years ago I resolved never to bother with New Year’s resolutions, and I’ve stuck with it ever since.” –Dave Beard

Though many people make a New Year’s resolution, less than 10% will achieve their resolution.

So don’t feel bad that you have already broken any resolutions you made. You are in the majority.

Here’s hoping you have a great 2023.
