Lady Cards go 3-0 to win Smoky Mountain Classic

GATLINBURG — Martin County Lady Cards brought home their second tournament championship in three weeks as they won the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic Thursday at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School.

Three weeks earlier, the Lady Cardinals traveled to the Marshall County Hoopfest Classic and came away with the championship in a 45-42 overtime win against Marshall County.

The Lady Cards moved to 8-1 on the season.

As Martin County headed to Tennessee last week, the Lady Cards had their minds set on winning three games in three days in their bracket.

The Lady Cards easily defeated Battery Creek (S.C.) 63-40 in the first game Dec. 20.

The following day Martin County won a 66-44 decision over Chapman (S.C.).

The Lady Cards moved to the championship game Thursday against a very good Kentucky team in Floyd County Central. Martin County held off the Jaguars for a narrow victory 60-56 to claim the prestigious championship title.
