Elsie Jewell Obituary

Elsie Jewell

1930—2022

Elsie Jewell, 92, of Lovely, passed away peacefully Dec. 23, 2022 at home surrounded by her family as she got her precious wings and went to walk with the Lord.

Born Feb. 2, 1930, she was the treasured daughter of the late Basil and Ada (Underwood) Davis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, William Ray Jewell. She was the last living beloved sister of late brothers Curtis, Bennie, Lacy, Dennie, John, Howard, Bud and John Lewis Davis (who was like a brother), along with one special sister, the late Lundie Preece.

The loss of her son, Gary Jewell, not only broke her heart but her spirit, as did the loss of her grandson, Phillip Jewell.

Elsie loved and cherished her family. They were her biggest blessing in life, along with serving the Lord. She was a member of the Union United Baptist Church (Mouth of Emily) for many years.

She was the caring and adored mother of sons Leroy (Linda) Jewell, Darrell (Christine) Jewell and David (Liz) Jewell and daughter Renee (Rick) Slone.

She was a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren, Angie, Dalena, Eric, Regina, Jason and Nik; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Austin, Darrian, Shae, Cole, Brody and Eli (and one on the way due in July 2023); and three great-great-grandchildren, Vanden, Finley and Braxton.

Elsie leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, which she had special bonds and memories with each of them.

She always had a special touch with people and never met a stranger, taking on the motherly role with many over the years. She was always cooking and preparing meals and was especially known for her chicken and dumplings. When leaving her house, you always felt welcomed and loved and were never hungry. Her sense of humor and infectious smile will always live in the hearts of those who love and remember her.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2022 at the Union United Baptist Church (Mouth Of Emily Church) in Pilgrim, with Terry Harmon and Jamie Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at the Jewell Cemetery in Lovely. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Community Hospice of Ashland for their care and compassion for their beloved mother. Mullins Family Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
