HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Tug Valley High School cheerleading team won the Class A State Cheer Competition championship Saturday at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington.
It was back-to-back titles for Coach Tara Mitchell Wolford and her cheer squads.
The West Virginia cheer championships, held by the WVSSAC, were on the campus of Marshall University.
For Tug, it’s the school’s ninth overall state crown and fifth in the last six years. Tug Valley was unable to compete in 2020 because of COVID restrictions by the state. Many believe they would have won that season too.
The Panthers cheer squad consists of seniors Maddie Deskins and Cami Thompson, juniors Selicity Baisden, Tailyn Russell, Laura Spaulding, Jessica Spaulding, Kynnli Farley, Millie Wellman, Karissa Davis and Kylee Reed, sophomores Trixie Marcum, Chelsea Perry and Kirsten Grimmett, and freshmen Lila Duncan, Molly Hatfield, Addison Ooten and Alyson Marcum.
Wolford is assisted by Marie White.
