Newly-elected Inez officials sworn in

Newly-elected Inez officials Roy Penix, Floyd David Jude, Ed Daniels and Terry Fraley took the oath of office Thursday before the city meeting.

INEZ — The mayor and three city commissioners were sworn in Thursday at Inez City Hall.

Mayor Ed Daniels City Commissioners Terry Fraley, Roy Penix and Floyd David Jude took the oath of office in a ceremony performed by Martin County Clerk Susie Skyles before the city’s regular monthly meeting. The officials were elected in November, and their new terms begin Jan. 1.

Daniels and Fraley were reelected, while Penix and Jude will be the new faces at the table.

Barry Horn, the fourth commissioner elected in November, did not attend the ceremony.

Current Inez Commissioners Lisa Stewart Wells and Richie Wells did not seek reelection, while Commissioner Dennis Hall lost to Daniels in the mayoral race. Their terms expire Dec. 31.

New members stayed as guests for the city meeting, which Daniels started by announcing his plans to attend the next Martin County Fiscal Court meeting to discuss the need for cleaning the creek in the city.

“We’ve come close twice to these businesses and people’s houses getting water,” Daniels said. “We really don’t need that. I believe that dredging the creeks will stop it some. I also want to talk to them about the ambulance service. I’m not beating on the one we have, but I believe we need one nearer to this county.”

Lisa Wells asked if dredging the creek would mean losing the walking trail.

“If it’s done right, we probably will,” said Daniels. “But comparing losing that to people losing their businesses and homes, there is no comparison.”

The commission agreed to table the discussion of street work until the new commission takes office.
