Verla Sluss

1921—2022

We are sad to announce that our beloved Verla Sluss, 101, of Inez, passed away Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022.

Verla was born May 30, 1921, the daughter of the late McKinley Roosevelt and Belle Slone Smith.

She was an active member of Inez Freewill Baptist Church and always stayed active with sewing, crocheting, gardening, senior games and being a Granny to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Sluss; her sons, Charlie Sluss, Donald Sluss and James Benjamin “JB” Sluss; her sister, Esta Douglas; and brothers, John Smith and Phillip Smith.

Survivors include her son, John Sluss and daughter, Joy Doss, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, at the Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, with Kevin Davis officiating. Burial was at the Warfield Cemetery, under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
