INEZ — The Martin County Tourism Board met for its monthly update Nov. 21 at the Martin County Government Center.
The Historic Courthouse remains under renovation. The public opening of the Historic Courthouse was delayed earlier this year as the organizers were informed a new occupancy permit would be required for its opening.
Board chair Nita Collier told the board of a meeting with the Heritage Council, however, in which the Council believed they should be able to move forward with the building’s existing occupancy status as a Public Assembly.
According to Collier, the building inspector Levi Wells said a written statement from the council could affect their decision.
“So my fingers are crossed,” said Collier.
The board discussed mural projects in the county.
The state highway and Judge Lon Lafferty support adding a mural to the stone wall you see as you come across the Kermit bridge into Warfield, according to Collier.
Lafferty agreed to have the space cleared in the spring to prepare for a mural.
Susan Fannin and Mary Ann Farley have volunteered to paint the mural and will be giving the board a quote for materials costs, which the board hopes to cover if it isn’t too expensive.
A second mural is being devised for the side of the Cain Hotel, the building in Inez owned by Leonard and Lisa Stayton that houses the Mountain Citizen and Leonard Stayton Law Offices.
The board concluded their meeting by making sure everything was ready to go for Christmas in the Mountains.
The board motioned to cancel their December meeting.
