INEZ – The Martin County High School basketball teams showcased their talent in Inez on Saturday evening in front of Cardinal fans. Coach Robin Newsome continues her tenure with the Lady Cards this season. Coach Jason “JJ” James will be back on the sidelines for the boys team.

Newsome and her Lady Cards took the floor at 6 p.m. with team introductions.

She and assistant coaches Boo Newsome and Alison Scott led the squad through a series of drills including shooting and passing.

The teams then participated in a full-court scrimmage to give fans a glimpse of what they’re going to see this upcoming season.

“It’s an opportunity for our community to come out and get an early look at our team. It’s fun for the kids. I saw a lot of good things tonight. We ran through a lot of combinations to see who is going to work well together on the court,” Coach Newsome said.

Star returner Laken Williams has received college offers this summer. She said “It was pretty exciting to play in the red-white game. This was my first year doing this due to Covid. We’re still working on some things, working on our chemistry, but I’m looking forward to the season.”

Coach James along with assistant coaches Jaryd Crum, Wesley Hager, and PJ Harris presented the Cardinal boys team following the girls squad.
