BY KRISTEN WELLS and BRAYDEN MCKENZIE
Hello, Cardinal Nation. This is Kirsten Wells and Brayden McKenzie. This week, we have some exciting news about current and upcoming events.
The football team had a huge game against Breathitt County.
Our boys and girls basketball team have their first scrimmage, as well as the Zip Zone Classic coming up soon. The high school’s new S.M.I.L.E Club has a spirit week in the works.
MCHS’s branch of FCCLA participated in their regional meeting this week.
Also, some of our choir members participated in all-state choir auditions. Let’s get into it!
Our football team traveled to Breathitt County High School in hopes of defeating them and moving on to the third round of the playoffs. This was after a huge win against Leslie County the previous week.
For the first time this year, our boys and girls basketball teams were put on display at the Red and White game Saturday. The girls team will play in their first preseason scrimmage Nov. 18.
Soon after, the Cards will play in the Zip Zone Classic. The girls will face off against Chapmanville, and the boys will play against Logan. Let’s make sure we come out to support the Cards!
Last week, our FCCLA Club went to their regional meeting. We spoke with Chelsea Jude to get some information about their meeting. She stated, “We discussed each of the officers’ roles and responsibilities. The regional officers performed a skit as well.”
Overall, Chelsea was satisfied with how the meeting went.
Fellow JAG/Journalism member Paige Maynard went to the University of Pikeville for all-state choir auditions. She sang along with a choir of the best in the state of Kentucky. Paige commented, “I should know about my auditions by Thanksgiving.”
We will follow up on this story as we receive more information.
S.M.I.L.E Club members are planning a spirit week that will take place the week before Christmas break. The S.M.I.L.E Club has already made a huge impact at the high school, and this spirit week could be another awesome showing of the hard work they put in.
This has been Kirsten Wells and Brayden McKenzie with this week’s Bird’s Eye View. Tune in next week for another awesome edition of this column from our journalism class. This is Wells and McKenzie signing off!
