Inez is EKEBC champion in undefeated season

INEZ — The Inez Indians B-team finished the season undefeated 18-0 after defeating Blaine in the EKEBC championship game 18-13 Saturday at Paintsville High School.

Earlier in the week, the team took down Fallsburg and Eden in the first Eastern Kentucky Elementary Basketball Conference tournament.

Inez vs. Blaine — In the championship game, Inez won over Blaine 18-13 behind six points from Inez Indian Aubree Muncy.

Blaine jumped on top 10-9 in the third quarter. Kenleigh Estep knocked down a free throw to tie the game.

Kinslee Callaham gave the Indians the lead with under a minute left in the third after she nailed a corner jumper.

Inez extended their lead after Estep dished an assist to Muncy at the block, who banked it in with 10 seconds to go in the quarter.

Blaine pulled within three early in the final stanza. Muncy fired in two when she found room in the lane to take a 16-11 lead.

With one minute remaining, Harper Runyon inbounded under the basket to Estep, who sealed the win with a jump shot.

Muncy led the game with six points, Callaham and Estep punched in four points each, and Adrienne Stumbo and Runyon each added a basket in the championship win.

Inez vs. Eden — The Indians faced a county rematch with Eden in the second round of the tournament Oct. 25.

Inez held the Wildcats scoreless in the fourth quarter after being down 8-7. The orange and black went on a 4-0 run to move on to the final round with an 11-8 win.

Kenleigh Estep led all scorers with five points. Harper Runyon, Maddy Goble and Aubree Muncy tossed in a basket each.

Braylee Horn, Alivia Stacy, Harleigh Maynard and McKinley Fitch each scored two points for the Wildcats.

Inez vs. Fallsburg — The Indians dominated Fallsburg 17-8 in the first round Oct. 24.

Inez took a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Kenleigh Estep led Inez with six points. Adrienne Stumbo fired in four points. Aubree Muncy, Maddy Goble and Jami Preece each scored two points for the Indians. Harper Runyon chipped in with a free throw.
