INEZ — A Tuesday morning patrol by Martin County Sheriff John Kirk and Deputy Chris Kidd resulted in the arrest of a Lovely man who attempted to discard drugs and flee.

According to Kidd, Sheriff Kirk witnessed Christopher J. Jude, 41, dropping a clear bag containing a crystal-like substance in front of a parked vehicle on Route 3 near Crum Funeral Home. When officers attempted to question the subject, he fled on foot toward the creek.

Kidd pursued Jude and overtook him after a short chase. According to Kidd, Jude became combative and was trying to get away, which resulted in the deputy taking him to the ground and restraining him with “minimal necessary force.”

Jude was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, fleeing or evading police on foot and resisting arrest.
