WARFIELD — Mark your calendar and plan to spend Dec. 9 and 10 at Christmas in the Park in Warfield.
Warfield Park Community Center board members will their hearts to attendees from near and far for a Friday even and all-day Saturday event.
“Come out and experience the warmth and hospitality that Warfield Park has to offer,” board member Denise Chaffins said. “Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and board members that work together each year to ensure our Christmas event is better than the one before, we feel this year’s event will be the best yet.”
On Friday evening (Dec. 9), children ages 2-12 will gather at the park community center for cookie-decorating hosted by Mrs. Claus herself. Each child will take home their creations and a few extra to decorate with the family.
There will be games with prizes, such as musical chairs and Pin the Nose on Rudolph, and a reading of the timeless classic “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
Cakewalk winners will receive a delicious treat while everyone can enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and hot dogs.
On Saturday, contestants competing in the ‘Christmas Bake-Off’ will deliver their home-baked goods to the community center by noon. They will be judged later that day, and winners will be announced before the kick-off of the parade. The three categories are cakes, cookies and candy — one entry per person per category.
Enjoy a live manger scene depicting the story of the birth of Jesus (if the weather cooperates). Children wearing angel costumes will entertain the crowds throughout the day with Christmas carols. They welcome everyone to join them as they visit nearby Dempsey to sing and spread Christmas cheer.
Children can create delicious s’mores treats at the firepits.
Craft vendors will offer a great opportunity for unique Christmas gifts. Limited space is available. Contact organizer Denise Chaffins at 606-395-5212 to reserve a spot. Weather permitting, vendors may also choose to set up outdoors.
The park board asks that each child that comes to the park Saturday bring a Christmas ornament to help decorate one of the various trees on display. Board members are adamant that the children know this is their park, and they should always have a hand in decorating.
At 4 p.m., the annual Christmas In the Park parade will take place. Chaffins encourages everyone to try their hand at designing the best Christmas float. Vintage car owners are invited to join in. Of course, Ole’ St. Nick will be making a special appearance.
Activities will continue to be added to the schedule as organizers work to ensure that all will enjoy a wonderful time.
