The Martin County Cardinals took on the Prestonsburg Blackcats at Prestonsburg and extended their three-game winning streak against the Blackcats. The Blackcats have not won against the Cards since 2019.

Last week volleyball season came to a conclusion after a hard-fought loss to Paintsville in the first round of district playoffs. We would like to congratulate the volleyball team on their season and wish them good luck going into the offseason.

This week Martin County High School is participating in Red Ribbon Week. For those who don’t know what Red Ribbon Week is, it is a yearly event in which schools around the country dress up and fight against drugs. Martin County High School’s dress-up days are Monday- PJ Day, Tuesday- College Day, Wednesday- Redneck Day, Thursday- Class Jeans, and Friday- Costume Day. Make sure you dress up to show awareness against drugs.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, educational comedian Keith Deltano spoke to the students of MCHS via Zoom to show awareness against bullying. His words were inspiring to say the least.

Also, coming up is JAG trunk or treat. This will take place Oct. 31 at the Collier Center, starting at 6 p.m. Make sure to come out and see us!

Boys and girls basketball season is almost here, and the players are ecstatic. Brayden McKenzie, a player on the boys team, said, “We can’t wait to get started and potentially make a run for another district championship.”

The school’s rendition of “Frozen” has also started practicing.
