Shirley McCoy

1933—2022

Shirley McCoy, 89, of Crum, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, at her home.

Born Feb. 26, 1933, in Elkhorn City, she was the daughter of the late David and Pauley Wright Ratliff. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence McCoy.

Shirley is survived by three children, Damon (Joanna) McCoy of Louisa, Dennis McCoy of Crum, W.Va., and Rose Ann (Dewey) Martin of Delbarton, W.Va.; grandchildren, Amy Ward, Dwayne McCoy, Clarence McCoy, Dennis Lee McCoy Jr., Robert Martin, Darrin Martin, Bordie Martin, Howard Martin and Michelle Salmon; and great-grandchildren, Camron Salmon, Donald Salmon Jr., Lyndsey Ward, Miles Ward, Piper Ward, Bennett Ward, David Martin, Cody Martin, Drew Martin, Brayden Martin and Colton Martin.

Shirley graduated with honors from Marshall University. She became a teacher for the Wayne County Board of Education and worked at Crum Elementary School for over 30 years. After retiring, she continued to work as a substitute teacher. She was also a member of the Perry Point Church.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, at the Warfield Chapel of the Callaham Funeral Home, with David Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at the McCoy Family Cemetery in Crum, W.Va. Friends may visit the chapel Saturday 6-9 p.m. with special services at 7 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
