INEZ — Tug Valley scored with less than two minutes to go, and Martin County JV couldn’t convert in a 42-35 loss Oct. 3 at Cardinal Stadium.
Devan Maynard and Rafe Price both scored touchdowns in the first half. Maddox Johnson connected on a point-after attempt to bring the Cards to within one at halftime.
Tug Valley opened the second half with a quick touchdown and two-point conversion to take a 22-13 lead.
Cardinal Peyton Hamilton took the handoff and put two Panthers in a washing machine with a nasty spin move on his way to a 70-yard touchdown.
Valley responded quickly with a touchdown to extend their lead to 29-19.
Maynard had a 20-yard carry before getting slung out of bounds. He ran another quarterback keeper to get to the 16-yard line to end the third quarter.
The opening play of the fourth quarter was a touchdown pass to Brayden Estep down the middle.
Hamilton ran in the two-point conversion to pull the Cards within two.
After another Tug Valley touchdown, the Cards drove the ball downfield.
Maynard hit paydirt from the 4-yard line and Hamilton scored the PAT for two.
On Valley’s next possession, the Panthers scored on their first play with 1:57 remaining in the game, and the Cards couldn’t come back.
The JV squad was scheduled to travel Monday to Lawrence County.
