COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Inez man lost his life over the weekend in a shooting in the South Linden neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio.
Gavin Osborne, 21, was pronounced dead at 1:02 a.m. Sunday by Columbus medics.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that police responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of East 18th Avenue and found Osborne suffering from a gunshot wound.
The shooter has not been identified, but according to reports, police detained a person of interest at the scene.
Police later said the shooting was under investigation as possible self-defense.
The case will go to the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, where a grand jury will consider bringing charges.
The deceased’s body was sent to the Ohio State Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
Osborne grew up in Martin County. He was the son of Anthony and Carla Osborne and was raised by his grandparents, Brenda and Rick Harless.
Osborne graduated with honors from Martin County High School and made the president’s list at Big Sandy Community & Technical College. He recently relocated to Ohio for employment opportunities.
His family will announce funeral arrangements after his body arrives in Martin County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary contributions to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
