Man arrested for murder in Pikeville shooting

PIKEVILLE — A Pikeville man was arrested for murder Monday evening following a shooting on Caney Drive in Pikeville.

The Kentucky State Police Pikeville Post received a 911 at 6:42 p.m. regarding the shooting.

Investigators responded to the residence and discovered a male had been shot. The initial investigation indicates an altercation between Monroe Jackson, 56, of Pikeville, and Ryan Hurst, 32, of Flatwoods, resulted in Jackson discharging a firearm fatally striking Hurst.

Hurst was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s office.

Jackson was arrested and lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.

Detective Cody Stiltner is leading the investigation. He was assisted on scene by KSP personnel.
