INEZ — The Kentucky Department of Transportation will begin work Tuesday on an asphalt resurfacing project in the City of Inez.

Inez Street Commissioner Dennis Hall said the project would impact parking and create delays. There will be no parking on the shoulder along Route 40.

The project area begins at the Route 645/40 junction west of the city and continues on Route 40 to McDonald’s at the Route 645/40 intersection east of town. The second part of the project will include Middlefork (Route 3), starting at the Old Martin County Courthouse and continuing to Route 645.

“Work on the project will start with cold milling and then will follow with an overlay of asphalt,” Hall said. “They’re going to blacktop from sidewalk to sidewalk, working around the storm drains, and will remark the parking spaces.”

The project will eliminate the raised median in front of the old courthouse and apply new striping.

KYTC District 12 said in a press release that milling work would take approximately one week.

Mountain Enterprise crews will work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend work is possible.

Hall noted the project had been in the planning for about three years, and he is glad to see it begin.

“It’s going to be a mess for a little while, but it’s going to look nice,” he said.

The commissioner encourages the public to use caution during construction.
