LOUISA — Tyler Childers performed with his band the Food Stamps in downtown Louisa Saturday night as part of this year’s Septemberfest, a U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Homecoming.

Childers took the stage around 9:30 p.m. wearing a Charles Booker for U.S. Senate T-shirt. This gesture was both praised and criticized by many on social media in the days following the performance but did not seem to hinder the crowd’s ability to enjoy Childers’ powerhouse performance, which featured many of his greatest hits.

Earlier in the day, Tyler Childers’ mother requested a T-shirt from the Booker for U.S. Senate vendor booth at the festival.

Booker has made his support for coal miners clear in his time as a politician. He has marched with striking miners and traveled to eastern Kentucky to listen and address the problems faced by his fellow Kentuckians.

Booker is running against Rand Paul for one of Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seats in the general election Nov. 8. The final day to register to vote in Kentucky’s general election is Oct. 11.
