LEXINGTON — An all-day concert at the Burl brought out a generous crowd Saturday. Between business and audience donations, over $40,000 was donated for disaster relief in eastern Kentucky.
The 10-hour outdoor event featured 21 musical acts from the area, including several eastern Kentucky artists. Laid Back Country Picker of Fallsburg, Sean Whiting of Johnson County, Cole Chaney of Boyd County and bands Wayne Graham and Slut Pill of Whitesburg were among the star-studded lineup.
According to Jeff Cox, the event emcee, $10,000 was donated by Clark’s Pump-n-Shop. The Appalachian Pioneer Program gave $5,000 of donations they had received from holding similar events in eastern Kentucky and Lexington.
The event brought hundreds to the distillery district of Lexington over the course of the day and was broadcast live on Facebook and YouTube. The livestream was voluntarily provided and produced by Three Sheets to the Wind.
Three Sheets to the Wind is a nonprofit media collaboration between Musical Moonshine, a full-service media company from Fallsburg; Three Stories Tall, a media company based in Lexington; and Appalachians for Appalachia, a nonprofit focused on grassroots advocacy in Appalachia.
The livestream is still available to watch on the Three Sheets to the Wind YouTube page and the Burl’s Facebook page.
