GREENSBORO, N.C. — Devan Maynard was selected among players across the country for the Chris Paul Rising Stars camp. He attended the camp Aug. 19-21 in Greensboro, N.C.
There were 498 high-caliber players in attendance. Maynard was put through a series of measurements before playing in high-competition games.
“It was a great atmosphere and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Maynard said.
His team won all four of their games.
Weighing in at 176 pounds, the 6-foot-3 Maynard is built like a long stretch four that can play multiple positions. He had a standing reach of 7 feet, 9 inches and a wingspan of 6 feet, 3 inches. His vertical jump is 27 inches and is expected to be higher as he ages.
Maynard had professional headshots and action shots taken of him and was able to participate in a video booth.
He dreams of the NBA. When asked what his second choice would be if it doesn’t work out, he says he doesn’t need one because he will get there.
“I learned how to take nothing for granted. It was a great experience that allowed me the opportunity to grow on and off the court,” Maynard said.
Speakers at the event told the group that “hard work pays off and if you give 110 percent, you can accomplish anything.”
Maynard is an incoming freshman at Martin County High School and will provide valuable minutes this season for the Cards.
