Shelba Jean Brown
1943—2022
Shelba Jean Pack Brown, 79, of Inez, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022.
Born Feb. 17, 1943, in Beauty, she was the only child of the late Harlie and Alice Muncy Pack. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Wilburt “Corky” Brown, sisters-in-law Jenny BeDilion and Judy Clark and brother-in-law Terry Brown.
Shelba is survived by one daughter, her pride and joy, Christi Lynn Brown of Inez. Special thanks to her loving family, Chester Brown (brother-in-law) of Catlettsburg, Kenny (nephew) and Barbara Brown, Columbus, Ohio, Bowie, (nephew) and Delia Clark, Inez, Lisa Clark (niece), Lexington, John Clark (nephew), Georgetown, and Abbie Clark (great-niece) Inez. Also special thanks to her beloved friends and caregivers who she loved dearly, Carol Sue Mills, Lovely, Paddy Coleman, Debord, Claudette Frederick, Turkey Creek, the late Marcia Mills, Turkey Creek, and Community Hospice of Ashland.
Shelba was a 1961 graduate of Warfield High School. She had a love for sweets and chocolates as they were ever present at her many hosted UK basketball games. She enjoyed leisure time sitting on her porch, enjoying the sun while eating ice cream from the Inez Dairy Drive-in. She enjoyed being pampered by getting manis and pedis with her treasured friends/caregivers, Paddy and Claudette, which were always followed by a good meal.
Shelba, a retired U.S. Postal Service employee of 34 years, was a dedicated postmaster in Lovely, beginning Jan. 5, 1974. Mrs. Brown joined the Postal Service in 1964, working as a postal clerk in Beauty. While in the Postal Service, Shelba enjoyed her involvement with the Kentucky Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters (N.A.P.U.S.), serving as registration chair and later as vice president.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Turkey Creek Church of the Nazarene. Thank you to the congregation for their faithful support and prayers through her extended illness.
The funeral service was Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at Callaham Funeral Home in Inez, with Garrett Mills officiating. Burial followed at the Mountain View Memory Gardens in Maher, W.Va., under the direction of Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
