INEZ — Over 30 vehicles participated in cruise-in Saturday in Inez to help raise money toward a scholarship for a Martin County student to pursue a career in auto mechanics or diesel mechanics.

The event, organized by Bill Preece, Clyde Adams and others, drew a large crowd to the Advance Auto Parts parking lot for music, a cookout and plenty of raffles and prizes.

“We’re hoping to raise enough to pay the whole cost – books, tools and maybe a little bit of money to get back and forth,” Preece said. “We’ve had a real good turnout. The whole community came together and donated hundreds and hundreds of dollars, so it’s been just amazing.”

The event was rained out after about an hour but raised over $1,100.

Preece plans to hold more cruise-ins and a parts sweep meet.
