ALLEN — Martin County High School basketball players Peyton Davis and Matt Linville played on the David & Darryl Sports Elite basketball team in the Thin Blue Line Classic in Allen.
The tournament honored the police officers shot in the line of duty June 30 in Allen. All proceeds went to the families of the officers.
Matt Linville, a senior for the Martin County Cardinals, won the dunk contest.
D&D went 2-0 in pool play Friday.
In tournament play, D&D defeated the West Virginia Heat.
In the semi-finals, the team won over Prestonsburg.
D&D was undefeated in the championship game to become runner-up.
Peyton Davis dropped 24 points, and Linville had eight points – with two coming from a monstrous dunk.
Davis was humbled to be a part of the tournament.
“I consider it an honor to help those cops’ families,” Davis said. “It’s amazing how a sport like basketball could bring that many people together for a great fundraiser.”
The team also consisted of Jaden Stewart (Pike Central), McKaden Maynard (Belfry), Chris Spriggs (Floyd Central), Ronnie Samons Jr. (Floyd Central), Seth Caudill (Hazard), Braiden Tackett (Shelby Valley), Dawson Moore (Floyd Central) and Dylan Boyd (Floyd Central).
If you would like to participate in the fundraiser, there is a GoFundMe on Facebook for the families of the fallen and injured officers.
