INEZ — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office donated a vehicle Thursday to the Warfield Volunteer Fire & Rescue to help the department better serve the community.

The Dodge Charger is a drug-seized vehicle forfeited to Sheriff John Kirk’s office through the court.

“We haven’t been using it much, and they needed something like that,” Kirk said. “A lot of times, these guys respond to a lift assistance or something of that nature and have to take a fire truck to do that. They’ll have this car sitting there and can jump in and take it when they just need to get there real fast versus having to take a fire truck. Those trucks don’t maneuver around because they’re a lot bigger. This will work out good.”

WVFR captain Josh Hunt says his department will put the vehicle to good use.

“We’re going to use it to haul men to training, to first respond on EMS, and whatever we can do to help our community,” Hunt said. “We greatly appreciate Sheriff John Kirk for what he does for our community and helping everybody out anytime possible. We appreciate the donation.”

Kirk previously donated Hummers to Martin County Rescue and Inez Volunteer Fire Department.
