Riley Marcum

1957—2022

Riley Marcum, age 64, of Jennies Creek, departed this life June 22, 2022.

Born Sept. 3, 1957, in Williamson, W.Va., he was the son of the late Riley (Witcher) Marcum and Josie Runyon Marcum. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Marion Runyon, Ked Marcum, Jess Marcum and Blaine Marcum, and nine sisters, Loreatha Stevens, Louise Dillon, Della Waller, Minnie Rife, Launa Parsley, Irene Parsley, June Tanner, Minnie Fortner, Spice Marcum and Martha Marcum.

Riley is survived by two sons and one daughter, Riley Keith Marcum of Crum, W.Va., Micah Ryan Marcum of Genoa, W.Va., and Dell Michelle Jean (Chris) Stacy of Ulysses. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Enoch Keith Marcum, Alyson Marcum, Harleigh Maynard, Kailyn Stacy and Kimber Stacy; four sisters, Thelma Hensley of Kermit, W.Va., Mary Lee Messer of Pataskala, Ohio, Addie Salmons of Crum, W.Va., and Viola Evans of Florida; one brother Hershel Runyon of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

Riley will be best remembered for his amazing talent on the guitar as well as many other instruments and his love for collecting Bibles and other biblical books. Riley played with various gospel and bluegrass groups throughout his life. He would sit and play music for hours with anyone willing to play or listen. His talent on the guitar would undeniably rank with the very best, including Tony Rice, his favorite guitar player of all time.

Before failing health, he loved hunting with his sons, family and friends. The best dog he said he ever owned was little Spot.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the Warfield Chapel of the Callaham Funeral Home, with Ken Allen, Eddie Smith and Phillip Perry officiating. Burial was at the Marcum Cemetery on Tick Ridge with pallbearers Scottie Dillon, William (Johnny) Collins, David Collins, Leslie D Hensley, Joshua Hensley, Harold Williams, PC Messer, Alex Marcum, Daryl Messer and Logan Dillon. Arrangements were under the direction of Callaham Funeral Home, Inez.
