All-Stars begin tournament

INEZ — All-Star players from the Martin County Cal Ripken League have some baseball and softball games left to play. Martin County coaches selected All-Stars for the District 3 Cal Ripken Tournament that begins Thursday at Bob Amos Park in Pikeville.

The tournament consists of teams from Johnson, Lawrence, Pike, Martin and Magoffin counties. Drawings determined the seeding in each division – 8U, 10U and 12U.

The 8U division has all five counties participating. No. 1 seed Lawrence County will have a bye. Martin County is the two seed, Magoffin the three, Pike four and Johnson County five.

Game 1 is Pike County vs. Johnson County. Game 2 will feature the Martin County Cardinals against Magoffin County at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Martin County is the one seed in the 10U division, comprised of four counties. MC will take on Pike County at 6 p.m. Game 2 is Johnson County vs. Lawrence County.

The 12U division also consists of four counties. Pike County is the one seed taking on the fourth-seeded Martin County at 8 p.m. Thursday, and Johnson and Magoffin will square off for Game 2.

The tournament will conclude June 26.

Fans can view games via livestream on the District 3 Cal Ripken Facebook page. Softball seeding and games were not available at the press deadline.

The following players are Martin County Cal Ripken All-Stars:

8U – Harper Runyon, Maci Callaham, Rocco Maynard, Kash Howell, Jayce McCoy, Kayden McCoy, Lyric Howell, Blaine Williams, Parker Stafford and Nolan Muncy. Alternates are Hank Reed, Landon Parsley and Jaxon Maynard. Chad Williams is the coach.

10U – Brayden Hammond, Mayson Phillips, Brock Fields, Patrick Carter, Ryder Little, Jayce Conley, Hyden Reed, Rylee Damron, Gunner Broaddus and Jonah Mills. Thomas Green is the coach.

12U – Kruze Howell, Dylan Hale, Zayden Coots, Chase Hinkle, Gaven Grace, Hunter Dials, Tyler Stacy, Peyton McPeek, Bentley Stacy and Luke Preece. Alternates are Brodie Endicott and Kegan Tackett. Robert Howell is the coach.

Softball – Aaliyah Carter, Shannon Marcum, Zoe Sammons, Chloe Jude, Kenadi Fannin, Bri Muncy, Jayla Savage, Sophie Hinkle and Kinslee Callaham. Alternates are Ally Mcginnis, Lanie Jewell and Kylee Grace. Jayla Dials is the coach.
