CITIZEN STAFF REPORT

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin sentenced a Charleston man Friday to 25 years in prison, followed by supervised release for the rest of his life for producing child pornography.

Brian Wayne Shaffer, 51, must also register as a sex offender, U.S. Attorney Will Thompson said in a news release.

According to court documents, Shaffer admitted that he used his cellphone to photograph the genitalia of a prepubescent female minor with whom he was living in August 2021, and to upload the nude photo and send it to another individual on YouTube.

Shaffer was previously convicted of first-degree sexual assault of another prepubescent female minor in Kanawha County Circuit Court March 2, 2001.
