Former prison officer sentenced for civil rights violation, sexual abuse of inmates

MOUNTAIN CITIZEN STAFF REPORT

LEXINGTON — A former Federal Medical Center correctional officer will serve 135 months in prison for inappropriately touching inmates and engaging in sexual conduct with them.

Chief U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves sentenced Christopher Brian Goodwin, 46, Friday in U.S. District Court in Lexington. Goodwin pleaded guilty in March to deprivation of rights under the color of the law and three counts of sexual abuse of a ward.

Goodwin was employed at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, where he committed the offenses upon four inmates, U.S. Attorney Carlton S. Shier said Monday in a news release.

Goodwin admitted that he grabbed one victim as she attempted to exit an office space and placed himself between her and the door so he could monitor the hallway through a window. He then proceeded to sexually assault the victim against her will, knowing there were no cameras in that vicinity.

Goodwin also admitted to touching three more victims’ breasts, buttocks and groin areas and engaging in oral sex with them on multiple occasions between April and September 2019.
