KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Boo Newsome capped off her legendary career as a University of Pikeville women’s golfer by being named a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Third Team All-American. She became the first Bear in the program’s history to be honored as an All-American.
The NAIA made the announcement Thursday.
Each of the three teams features 15 individuals named – 45 student-athletes selected by the NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Association All-America Committee.
Earlier this season, Newsome became the first Bear in program history to be named NAIA National Golfer of the Week. Other accolades included First Team All Mid-South Conference and the MSC Golfer of the Week five times.
Newsome had an incredible year for the Bears, winning four tournaments – Alice Lloyd College Fall Invitational, UPIKE Fall Invitational, Alice Lloyd College Spring Invitational and Midway Eagle Invitational – to give her 16 career wins, the program record. She also tied the program record with a 54-hole score of 224 (76, 74, 74) at the IWU Fall Invitational in October 2021. She was second in program history with a low round of 68 and a low 36-hole score of 142, which both occurred at the Alice Lloyd Fall Invitational in September 2021. Her average score of 75.67 for the season is also second in program history.
Newsome was runner-up in the East Tennessee Collegiate and placed third in the MSC Fall Invite and the MSC Spring Classic. She was an MSC All-Academic Honoree.
