CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
MILO — A crowd turned out for the annual Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs event Saturday at the Martin County Lake on Milo Road.
Operation UNITE, Addiction Recovery Care and community members sponsored the event.
Organizer Katrina Sansom said about 58 people came out.
“It was mostly families that attended,” Sansom said. “I thought it was a good turnout, especially with other events going on this weekend. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.”
UNITE provided fishing poles and bait, free food and plenty of water for participants.
Inez resident James Patrick said folks caught quite a few fish.
“The kids caught a few catfish,” Patrick said. “One little boy almost caught a keeper bass, about 12 inches long, and there were several bluegills.”
Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs is an annual spring event that promotes outdoor recreation while educating local youth about the dangers of drug use.
“We plan to hold this event each year during Kentucky’s free fishing weekend,” said Sansom.
