INEZ — Martin County Judge/Executive Colby Kirk selected Eric Phelps as his new deputy judge/executive.
Kirk made the announcement Tuesday.
“Eric has good work ethic, and we will work well together,” Kirk said. “He will balance out a lot of areas that wouldn’t play into my strengths. His strengths are different from mine, and we will work well together.”
Kirk says Phelps will help with solid waste issues, road and bridge.
“He has a background working in construction with machinery and equipment in ways that I don’t,” said Kirk. “That helps to bring some industry knowledge to the office that I lack. That will allow me to focus on writing grants and economic development type of work. I’m glad to have another person in the office to help take some of the lift off of it.”
Phelps said he was excited to have the opportunity.
“Now Colby can focus on what he needs to bring economic development to the county,” Phelps said. “We can look forward to Martin County getting better as a whole.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about helping people the best we can, being honest and upfront with them.”
Kirk says he is confident that Phelps will always treat people with respect and kindness.
“He will do what’s right for the people of the county.”
Phelps, 39, lives in Inez with his wife Melissa and son.
